and master bedroom remodel in September 2008 and have thoroughly
enjoyed the results. We, as owner/builders, worked with Steve for
the design phase and as a consultant during the construction. As a
designer, Steve was invaluable, causing us to consider elements that
we would have overlooked, as well as raising practical
considerations on the project. I have to admit, with Steve, the
project became more expensive, but with positive results. Had we
cut cost at every corner, we would have a product that was ‘ok,’ but
not the wonderful result that we both love and continue to
appreciate with each passing day. In short, you get what you pay
for and Steve will encourage you to upgrade when prudent. Finally,
Steve’s contacts are first class; contractors, materials, and
appliances, and when using Steve as our designer, we were often able
to get discounts and excellent quality. As owner/builders, we did
save money. The amount will vary according to one’s own experience,
and the time and effort that is put into the project. By acting as
general, you often have to be on site, to let people in, answer
questions, and coordinate the schedule. Most of our work was done
by contractors, but others have saved more by taking on task that
which they were comfortable doing. We had Steve work with us
through the construction, this was valuable to us due to our lack of
construction experience. We would do much of the work contacting
people and being onsite, but Steve would advise us on changes and
make critical calls to help keep the construction on track. In
retrospect, the most valuable benefit (to us) as owner/builder was
the constant involvement in the construction. We enjoyed the
challenges, and also, were able to make more informed decisions on
inevitable questions and changes. We believe this added to our
overall appreciation and satisfaction.”
